History
Wolcott Orchards and Cider Mill is a real institution in Genesee
County and the Flint area. The orchard was originally planted over 100
years ago by the Wolcott family. Those trees have been replaced since
then and many are now 40 or 50 years old.
Two generations of the Wolcott family owned the orchard, and many of
the third and fourth generations worked on the farm and in the market.
In 1982 the business was sold to Jim & Judie Martin. They expanded
the buildings and the business over the next 22 years to include a
bakery, farm market products, festivals and private parties. Their
family has been involved in various ways and even has the third
generation helping out.
In 2004, the business was sold again to Bob and Cindy Hallifax. They
have retained Jim Martin as the manager of the business, and this
collaboration has resulted in a new barn built for farm entertainment,
and extensive remodeling inside the market.
Products
There are over 20 varieties of apples sold at the market
each Fall. The cider made in the mill is unpasturized and
full bodied. The bakery has fresh cinnamon donuts daily as
well as a large variety of pies, cookies, sweet rolls and
many other goodies. The shelves in the market are full of
jams, jellies, popcorn, caramel apples, Watkins products,
bulk spices, and all the wonderful seasonal things that mean
Fall in Michigan.
